My Top 11 of 2011

I know my top 11 of 2011 list is coming pretty late considering 2012 is already in full swing, but it was really hard for me to decide on only 11 of the shots posted last year. In order to break it down and make it a little easier, I had to force myself to omit choosing any of the photos I posted from work gigs and also any of the ones of my own family (or else all 11 shots would probably be from those!). So don't get me wrong, I think my family and paid gig shots are probably some of my best work, but I wanted to only showcase here what I thought were the top 11 random shots I took last year for my photo a day project. Canada Day 2011 - Fireworks

I wanted to get a different angle on the fireworks this year for Canada Day, so when my friend Jeff mentioned the corktown bridge as a possible location I thought it would work perfectly. It has a great view of the Rideau Canal, the Peace Tower, and Chateau Laurier. It did turn out to be a good spot for the fireworks, except for a few little issues. Normally they fire off the fireworks as far west as they can so that they explode over the water and behind the Parliament, however there was a fair bit of wind from the west keeping the fireworks from getting out from behind the building on the right side of my shot. Another issue is that a pedestrian bridge is probably not the best location for long exposures. The bridge was packed full of people and as the group would move, so too would the bridge. Even with my tripod many of my shots were too shaky to use since the bridge itself was bouncing up and down. Well, lesson learned. It was a great spot indeed, but other factors kept it from being the perfect spot.

Canada Day 2010 Fireworks

We had perfect weather in the nations capital for Canada Day today, which made the fireworks all the more enjoyable! With hundreds of thousands of people (including the Queen) in Ottawa this year waiting for the explosive display of pyrotechnics, we were not disappointed! Below is a few of the shots I got from the excellent fireworks. Enjoy!
